The Organic Protein Company | Fitness Friday

I recently discovered on Twitter a relatively new brand who make organic protein powder very aptly named The Organic Protein Company. Their owner Daniel got in touch with me to ask if I would like to be sent a pack of their protein to try and review on my blog. I immediately said yes as I'd been wanting to get back into my fitness regime properly but the previous lot of protein I bought was out of date and I never knew there was an organic variety on the market so it was really exciting!

The Organic Protein Company are a relatively new brand to hit the organic scene and they've come out with a bang as their ethics, morals and products are nothing short of amazing.

They make one powder that is unflavoured, gluten free and certified organic. The whey protein comes from cows who are free to roam out in the open organic pastures, meaning the milk has higher levels of omega 3 fatty acids and more nutrients.  The cows that produce the milk are allowed to graze freely on grass and clover and are given lots of room to to move when inside, have plenty of fresh air & comfortable bedding. They are reared without the routine use of drugs or antibiotics and GM feed is forbidden. To help increase the welfare standards of farming for cows and other animals, The Organic Protein Company give 25p to Compassion in World Farming for every pack they sell! Their farmers never use artificial fertilisers, herbicides or GM feed so you won't find any nasties in there, plus there's no additives like sugar that you'll find in mainstream protein powders.
Once the organic milk has been separated, the whey is filtered twice, resulting in a gentle separation and concentration of the protein. Most of the fat and lactose is removed, while the high quality protein and much of the calcium and other beneficial nutrients are retained. Whey protein has the highest biological value and is contain essential and non-essential amino acids, making it ideal for increasing the protein in our diets.

Okay...enough of the science & info...onto the protein! I love making protein shakes after workouts as it helps to speed up muscle recovery, aid weight loss and helps make you leaner. I was a bit hesitant to try the protein as I am very fussy...however I was impressed! It isn't the most amazing tasting shake, but it isn't awful either. I mixed one scoop (25g) with 150ml of milk (I can't do water, #sorrynotsorry!) and shook it up in my protein shaker. I waited for the froth to go down and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I am a very fussy person so if you're reading this thinking, oh god what is it like?! don't worry, you'll like it! Although, I'd love a chocolate one...Dan can you make a chocolate flavour? ;)

The great thing about the protein being unflavoured though, is that you can add it to smoothies and other recipes and you won't even know it's there! I added one scoop to my a smoothie I made recently; 1 banana, frozen blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and a splash of milk and it meant that I was getting an extra hit of protein at the same time!

I have been drinking one protein shake after my workouts and I've really enjoyed incorporating the extra protein in my diet. If you're looking to kickstart your fitness regime or simply want to green up your fittie diet, this is definitely something you should be checking out!

Following on from my earlier comment about their morals & ethics, The Organic Protein Company are trying to reduce their carbon footprint as much as possible and have moved their production from the USA to Germany, slashing their carbon footprint and they also plant one tree for every pack sold! How amazing is that?

Their serving scoops are made from 100% recycled milk bottles here in the UK and their packaging is made from 100% recycled material too. They also ship out their parcels using 70-80% recycled material, though their target is 100%.

Need I say anymore?! What an incredible company and one that I am so happy to have discovered.

Check out The Organic Protein Company & their Green Mission here and you can buy it here. It costs £22.00 for a 400g pouch and comes with the scoop but you can also buy multiple pouches to get it cheaper. It comes with a 90 day guarantee as well so if you aren't happy you can return your protein for a refund.

  1. I haven't hopped onto the protein powder bandwagon yet but have thought about it (and as you mentioned, adding them to your smoothie is awesome) so it was great to read this post - thanks for sharing all the info! :)

  2. Oooh I love the ethics & the branding! When I was getting into protein powders, I looked for an organic whey for aaaages, but found nothing. If only this had been around back then! Unfortunately I have connected whey consumption w/ increased breakouts, so I avoid it now. I'm tempted to try this though, not gonna lie....
