Green People Sugar Scrub & Body Butter | Beauty Review

24 Jul 2014

I was recently contacted by the lovely peeps at Green People who asked if I would like to be sent some products to review for my blog. It came at just the right time as it was literally the day after the Love Natural Love Organic show & I had visited their stall and tried out some of their body products - the Sugar Scrub & the Body Butter. Both smelt absolutely heavenly but I was saving my money for the Field Trip Tour so I didn't buy anything on the day. So I was extremely happy & grateful when they said they would send me both - so generous!

The story behind Green People is truly amazing and I thought I'd share it with you. The founder, Charlotte, had a vision to create products that would help her daughter Sandra's eczema and allergies. In 1997 Green People was born after a lot of hard work and from the very beginning Charlotte's principles meant that product performance and ethical practice were never sacrificed for profit - Charlotte wanted to create a truly natural brand at a time where a product could be called "natural" with only 1% natural ingredients. Charlotte approached the Soil Association and encouraged them to set standards for organic health and beauty products. In 1999 she was invited to be on the committee, designing the first standards for organic beauty! 17 years on, Green People are one of the most loved organic beauty brands and they offer over 100 certified organic products that have won multiple awards. Their products are jam packed with over 90% active natural and organic ingredients with a promise to never use aggressive ingredients or synthetic chemicals.  Amazing!

I was sent their Body Butter* which is a deeply nourishing moisturiser with a balm consistency especially good for normal, dry and mature skin. It is 99% organic(!!) and it smells absolutely divine! It has quite a strong smell but I can't quite put my finger on what it is exactly..it smells like something else I have but I can't work out what it is! I just know that it smells SO good and when I use it, I use it all over as its just amazing! The key ingredients are coconut, pomegranate and rosehip oil which all work together to moisturise deep into the skin and create a protective barrier to help dry, cracked skin to recover.

This is what it looked like when I first opened it and then it was a really warm day so I pressed my finger in it & mixed it all up together & it melted down slightly to a lovely thick balm, as you can see in the next photo. When you apply it to your skin it melts into an oil but its still quite thick so a little goes a very long way. I always get itchy legs after shaving and especially the next few days when the hairs start to grow back but using this my legs feel soothed and moisturised.

My boyfriend is a physiotherapist and he often gives me massages (oh yeah I picked a goodun'!) and he used this and it worked perfectly whilst moisturising my back and legs at the same time. When he was giving me a massage he said "your back is glistening" haha! I thought that was really funny because it does give you a lovely glow and my skin looked nourished and moisturised but not at all greasy or oily. I can imagine how nourishing this is going to be in the Winter but I've still been using it in this heat that we've been having in the UK and my legs are little slippery & slidy when I get into bed but it soon sinks in & I wake up with super soft skin.

I also love using this on my feet at night - I pretty much always wear flip flops or sandals in the summer which means my feet get awfully dry, especially my heels. So I pop some of this on and massage it into my feet and in the mornings my feel are noticeably smoother and softer. I would wear socks to help with the moisturising however its just been too hot here in the UK!

Ingredients:
ELAEIS GUINEENSIS (PALM) OIL*^, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL*, COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL*^, CANNABIS SATIVA (HEMP) SEED OIL*, CERA ALBA (BEES WAX)*, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL*, PUNICA GRANATUM (POMEGRANATE) SEED OIL*, ROSA MOSCHATA (ROSEHIP) SEED OIL*, VACCINIUM MACROCARPON (CRANBERRY) SEED OIL*, AROMA [LAVANDULA HYBRIDA (LAVANDIN) HERB OIL*, ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS (ROSEMARY) LEAF OIL*^, CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS (LEMONGRASS) LEAF OIL*^], TOCOPHEROL (NATURAL VITAMIN E), LIMONENE*, LINALOOL*, CITRAL*, GERANIOL* (FROM ESSENTIAL OILS). *99.9% ORGANIC ^FAIRLY TRADED

I was also sent their Sugar Scrub* which is a 95% organic body scrub made up of organic raw cane sugar along with organic shea butter and the same three key ingredients that are in the body butter; coconut, pomegranate and rosehip. It smells just as good as the body butter! It is best for normal, dry and mature skin and is a very luxurious, nutritive scrub that exfoliates skin to help other products penetrate more deeply. Even though it is filled with oils, the sugar is still rough, which means it offers a thorough but still gentle scrub at the same time as moisturising my body. I used this on my legs before the Field Trip Tour and my skin loved it. It didn't melt off in the shower either, it was easy to scrub my legs and offered a good enough exfoliation to notice a difference after my shower. As I said earlier, my legs get really itchy after shaving and its usually because I often forget to moisturise and my skin ends up dry and flaky. However, these two products make me actually WANT to use them everyday! Obviously I haven't used the scrub everyday but I've been reaching for it over my other scrubs! I've noticed less ingrown hairs on my legs too since using the scrub.
