mainelement:love Aloe Conditioner

28 May 2014

I was recently sent a hair conditioner from an American brand, mainelement:love. This natural haircare brand was created by Tyrika Williams, who is now nicknamed the "Mother Hen" of natural haircare by her friends & family since she started her own business. Tyrika decided to start making her own products to avoid chemical-filled conventional shampoos & conditioners and started learning more about natural ingredients, the holistic approach of aromatherapy and what gave the best results. She started whipping up recipes in her kitchen and trialing them out herself as well as on her husband and son - along with friends who kept coming back for more. She started selling them to cover her costs and before she knew it, she had a business!

I was sent the Aloe Conditioner* ($13) all the way from Texas, Houston where the brand is based. Citrus Fusion is a unique blend of citrus essential oils that eliminate excess oil from the scalp and keeps pores unclogged. It claims to enhance shine and lustre whilst preventing dandruff, shedding and brittleness. The aloe based conditioner focuses on the restorative properties of aloe to promote continuous health & restoration of hair from root to tip.

Key Ingredients:

Aloe Vera Juice - healing properties, enhances natural shine and sheen, combats frizz
Lavender & Chamomile distillate - increases circulation to scalp promoting hair growth,
Hydrolyzed Wheat - plant based protein attracts and bind water to hair to strengthen hair shaft
Panthenol - seals, strengthens and repairs hair shaft; prevents split ends

I had seen on Rachel's channel, All Natural Aspirations, that she uses aloe vera before drying her hair which leaves her with smooth, soft hair without it being greasy so I was eager to try this conditioner. I don't always use conditioner because to be honest, I haven't found a natural one that I really like that moisturises my hair just enough but not too much so that I have greasy roots so I've just generally been double shampooing and then using my Giovanni Heat Protector Spray but sometimes my hair gets tangled and needs some nourishment; in comes this bad boy.

I double shampooed my hair then used a small amount of this conditioner, mainly focusing on my ends but rather than leaving it on for long or rubbing it through to my roots, I just sort of smooth it over my hair and wash it out pretty much straight after. The final result? Smooth locks, no greasy roots & my hair is significantly less frizzy and not a lot of fly-aways like I usually get. I wash my hair now every 2-3 days, usually 3 since I started using the Odylique shampoo (review coming soon) and this hasn't upset my hair or caused any build up in the roots so I'm really happy about that. I don't use it every time I wash my hair as my hair simply doesn't need it all the time but when it's in need of a pick-me-up, I head for this!

Have any of you US bloggers tried anything else from mainelement:love you'd recommend?

  3. This looks interesting, I've not heard of this brand yet. I seldom use conditioners as I feel they can be heavy for my fine hair, so I usually just shampoo and then apply argan oil or TANF silky tresses serum.

    1. Yes me too, I rarely use conditioners as they just clog up my roots so I don't really ever rub them in. I've just used a new hair oil that was lovely which de-clogs my roots! I love argan oil too x

  4. Not heard of this brand so thanks for sharing. I'm pretty happy with my Madara Gloss & Vibrance combo but still have this nagging feeling that my HG hair products are still out there somewhere x
