Living Nature Liquid Foundation & Lipsticks Review

12 Mar 2014

I was recently on the lookout for a liquid foundation and spent ages and ages trawling through green beauty websites looking through review after review of different foundations. I was really tempted by a few but one that stood out for me was the Living Nature Liquid Foundation that I found on Botanical Brands.

Living Nature are a New Zealand brand that have been running for 25 years. They believe less is more and all of their products are certified natural. They have a wide variety of products from cleansers and face masks to lipsticks & foundations.
Most of the reviews I found on the internet were of the shade 'Pure Sand' and at first I thought it might be a bit dark for me so I was looking at Pure Taupe, but one review said they come out lighter so I chose Pure Sand, kept my fingers crossed and hoped for the best!

I'm so glad I did my research as this colour is the perfect shade for me. At first when I pumped out the foundation, it was really runny and I was worried it would be too light coverage for what I was after. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It goes on so smoothly, looks natural and gives a lovely glow to the skin. It covers blemishes quite well and I just go back in with my RMS Un Cover-Up under my eyes and on any blemishes or red areas. I would say it is a medium coverage but it can be built up for a more full coverage. It still looks natural though and it stays on for a good 7 or 8 hours at least, without setting powder.

I'm not one to keep make-up on me in the day to re-apply so this is perfect for me. I did notice a couple of dry patches one day that the foundation did cling to so I would recommend exfoliating your skin regularly if you get dry skin or using a very good moisturiser before putting this on.

After my recent Carmine discovery (post to follow soon), I tweeted about it and the lovely ladies at Botanical Brands, which is actually right around the corner from where I work, kindly gave me one of Living Nature's lipsticks to try out as it doesn't contain carmine. Botanical Brands are the UK's supplier for Living Nature products as well as a new French brand Pulpe de Vie (more from them soon) and another NZ brand, Natural Being. I stopped by their office and I was like a kid in a candy store! They had shelves and shelves full of products I couldn't stop looking at everything!

Living Nature have about 4 or 5 in their range that are carmine free and I chose the shade Dusk* as it looked like a shade that would suit me most. As I a mainly pink/nude/red girl, it has been proving quite difficult to find these shades carmine free, as most of them are brown toned. However, this shade is lovely. It still has a brown hue to it, however it looks different once on your lips and still has a slight pink tone to it. This is a shade that would look different on everybody depending on your lip colour. I like to put a bit of foundation over my lips first so that they are completely neutral before using this as I think it suits me better that way. It's super moisturising and goes on really smoothly too.

*UPDATE*
Living Nature have now added two gorgeous red shades to their range which are carmine free! Read my post on the Living Nature Red Lipsticks.

Have you tried anything from Living Nature? What did you think?

Amber

*The lipstick was kindly given to me by the lovely ladies at Botanical Brands. All opinions are 100% honest and my own.

  9. The lipstick shade is lovely, what a perfect nude! I actually have the foundation, but unfortunately it didn't work for me as well as I think the coverage is just too light, but I definitely agree it does give a lovely glowing effect and I'm sure I'll go back to it during summer or when I go on holiday :) x

    1. Yes I did really like the face mask! I want to buy the full size but I think it only comes in sachet form which is a bit of a pain & a mess! x

  11. Back when I first went natural there weren't many all natural lipsticks available, mostly International brands such as Living Nature. I had two of them, Laughter and Morning Sun. Both were very pigmented, opaque, and long lasting. Since that was a millennia ago (or at least it seems to be) they may have changed their formula. I can't believe they still have the same shades! For carmine-free lipstick, look for vegan brands - they don't like crushed bugs on their lips. ;) One that comes to mind is Concrete Minerals - they have Lip Tints.

  13. Great review Amber. We are adding Natural Make-up soon, and are just choosing which brands to launch with. We already stock Living Nature's skincare range which is really popular (and Natural Being as well) so it's great to hear about their make-up range as well. We'll have to add it to our shopping list. :)
