Ambiance Volumizing Dry Shampoo | Beauty Review

29 Mar 2014

I was recently sent the Volumizing Dry Shampoo* to try out from the brand Ambiance. Up until I was sent this, I was using Batiste dry shampoo. I know how bad the ingredients are in it so I did only use it on emergencies so I was really excited to try a natural alternative.

Rather than your typical dry shampoo, Ambiance is a powder, that comes in an applicator with a brush at the end. You simply tip the applicator upside down over your hair and the powder falls out. You then brush it into your hair using either fingertips or the brush itself and voila! No more greasy hair! It comes in a variety of shades for all different hair types and I went for the colour brunette. Although I have highlights, this works well to blend into my hair and doesn't look patchy on my lighter hairs. It also works well at concealing roots (and greys) in-between colouring!

The base ingredient of this 100% natural product is starch so although your hair doesn't look greasy, it feels to me like I have a lot of hairspray in. This works well to volumize my hair and give it a bit of lift instead of looking flat & greasy however it can feel slightly knotty? I'm not sure that's the word really but I can't work out what the word would be! Its sort of like when you hairspray your hair and the next morning try & brush it out? Anyway, it only feels like that when you first apply it and then it's normal for the rest of the day. I can look past this though as my hair isn't greasy looking and I only use it on a few parts of my hair like the crown and my fringe! You do also have to be careful not to get the powder onto your clothes though, so if you are going to use it before going out, do it in your PJ's so you don't get brown powder all over your outfit like I did! Oops!

The applicator is pretty cool too because it retracts so all the bristles go together in the middle making it easier to put the lid back on and also when it runs out, you can buy re-fills instead of having to buy a whole new product which is great as it saves on packaging! Plus it's a handy size so you can keep it in your handbag for extra top-ups throughout the day!

You can buy this from Ambiance website for £11.99.

Have you tried a natural dry shampoo?

  2. Interesting applicator- I have never seen that before, but it makes a lot of sense! Right now, I am using the Acure Dry Shampoo that they sent me, and it's doing a good job- but every time it put it on my head I feel like I am applying baking powder because it is a shake bottle- and sometimes hard to gauge how much is coming out...does this dry shampoo you got feel gritty ever? Sometimes I feel like straight up baby powder (I know that's bad) works best/disappears easiest. Kathryne @getunsullied

    1. I'd never seen it before either but its so clever! GRITTY yes that's the word I was looking for...its sort of makes my hair feel rough? Hard to describe! But it is only for about 20 minutes then throughout the day it feels normal again!

  3. Ooh, that looks really interesting! I did briefly try the batiste one, but was put off by the ingredients. I don't know about you but after the gym I end up with terrible greasy roots, so perhaps I'll look into this. Lovely review. :)

    1. Yes I used to when I went to the gym so this is perfect to keep in your gym bag! I go to bootcamp now and get way too sweaty to not wash my hair afterwards aha! :)

  4. I've been eyeing this dry shampoo for a while now and still can't decide if I should go for it or not. How long do you think the tube will last for you?

  6. I'm so glad you did a review on this as I've been wondering about their dry shampoo for a while as a natural option. It's great that they give you colour options and I like the idea of a brush, might give it a go soon :) x
