Acure Organics Lemongrass & Argan Shampoo & Conditioner

1 Feb 2014

I bought this Shampoo & Conditioner in Whole Foods in Boulder when I visited Colorado in December. I had desperately wanted to visit a Whole Foods but didn't think I would get the chance as there wasn't any near where we were staying. However, on one of our day trips we drove past one and I managed to persuade my family to let me stop off & have a look! I came out with these two products as well as an Acure cleanser and some other bits & bobs. You can read my Holiday Haul here.

I bought the Lemongrass with Argan Stem Cell that claims to be 'clarifying' as my hair is more greasy than dry. It smells absolutely gorgeous, really refreshing and citrus-y. At first, I noticed that the shampoo is really soft on my hair - quite often with some shampoos they are really stripping but this felt very nourishing which was lovely. It didn't tangle my hair at all and the first few washes, my hair was super smooth and frizz-free.

However, after a few more washes, I stopped using conditioner because at the roots my hair was becoming quite clogged up and greasy straight after washing it. I started double shampooing and just using conditioner on my ends but this still didn't really help. I was really stuck because these worked brilliantly at the start and my boyfriend even commented on how smooth my hair looked! I really wanted them to work for me and went to Twitter to ask for a solution. Ria (Naturia Beauty) and Kate (WhatKatieRates) mentioned that this happens quite often when using a new shampoo and my hair is simply transitioning and getting used to a new shampoo. So, I decided to use my Yarok Hair Serum on my roots as it claimed to get rid of product build-up. I put around 3-4 droplets on my roots and left on for 10 minutes. I washed it off in the shower and then followed with one round of shampooing and a little bit of conditioner. Boy am I glad I tried this! It was the first time I used this oil but whilst browsing through my stash for a solution, I noticed this would get rid of product build-up and it sure did! I am really happy with how the hair oil helped with the product build-up and will still be using this until I use up the rest of the shampoo to try and see how my hair transitions but for something that is meant to be clarifying, I am not really that impressed which is a shame as I wanted to love them.. I will keep you updated and let you know if after time my hair gets used to the products. I don't mind using the hair oil once a week to just de-clog my hair but I barely use any other products in my hair apart from shampoo & conditioner and the occasional argan oil or leave-in heat protector but that's it. . They are both full of amazing ingredients but I think perhaps this might be the reason it's not working for me so I probably wouldn't re-purchase these. They are just too rich for my hair. Even if I just shampoo twice and don't condition, it's not a great result.

It's such a shame because I really wanted to love these and I've read some fab reviews on them but for me, it's not really worth the $10 each and greasy roots.

Have you tried any Acure products? What did you think?

  1. That's a bummer they didn't work for you! I've heard good things about Acure, too, but I've never tried them myself. I'd like to explore more natural shampoo options when I run out of the stuff I'm using currently, so I love reading reviews. This is helpful, thanks!

  2. I haven't tried those products, but it's not the first time that I try a new shampoo and it's great at first. Then it doesn't work. I suppose you need some time with every beauty product, like a cream.

    1. Me too, I usually run it through my ends and then whatever I have left I just sort of skim over the top a little to try and help the frizz but even without the conditioner my hair still felt greasy! x

    1. Me too it's been one of the things that has been a bit hit and miss for me actually. I really like the Faith in Nature shampoo but my hair felt a bit stripped after using it so I stopped using that one! x

  6. I'm on the verge of buying these...thanks for the honest review! I'll let you know if it goes any differently for me. This seems to be a problem with pretty much every natural shampoo I've tried. I have to use two full washes to get my hair clean, and then the conditioners over-moisturize. The quest continues...

    1. Please do let me know! I had just read another green bloggers review of these before I posted this up and she absolutely loved them so it made me wonder what I was doing wrong but it must just be my hair type so they might work well for you :) Yes my quest continues too...

    1. It is really good! In a way I am happy that I found the shampoo to be like this as I probably never would have discovered how great the hair serum is! x
