Holiday Haul - USA

8 Jan 2014

Hey everybody I'm back! I had an amazing time in Denver, Colorado and thought I would show you all the beauty products that I bought whilst I was out there! I will be doing another post with some photos from my holiday too so keep an eye out for that!

I actually didn't think I was going to find much because we weren't that close to a Whole Foods but we drove past one on the way back from the Coors factory in Golden so I was jumping for joy in the car begging my step-dad to stop the van and let me go in! There was 9 of us altogether so I had to quickly run in and choose what I wanted and the one we found was being renovated so there wasn't much to choose from but I still managed to spend $50 and this is what I got from there:

Alba Botanica Mango & Vanilla Shaving Cream - Since I have been suffering with eczema, when I shave my legs the hair grows back really bumpy and itchy so I thought I'd try this cream and see if it helps. I used it on Sunday night in the shower and it was really thick but very soothing. It smells so yummy too which is a bonus and I haven't had any itchy, red bumps so far!

Acure Lemongrass & Argan Stem Cell Shampoo & Conditioner -  These were the one product on my wishlist that I actually managed to find! They smell absolutely gorgeous - so refreshing! I used these the day I got back and I am really impressed. The shampoo lathers up really well - the most I have found from any of the natural shampoos I have tried and they both left my hair really clean & smooth. These are my favourite buys from the holiday!

Acure Sensitive Facial Cleanser - As I had heard good things about the shampoo & conditioner already I wanted to try something else from Acure and this was the product that stood out for me - I love cleansers! I tried this on Sunday and Monday night and its a lovely thick cream that smells gorgeous and it left my skin feeling lovely & smooth!

Jason Vitamin E 5,000 I.U Oil - I know we can buy this here but it was such a bargain I couldn't leave it. To buy it in England its about £8.99 but I got it for $7.99 which is less than a fiver! I haven't used this yet but it smells so good (it leaked a little bit in my suitcase but not a lot!) and I think I might add this to the DIY body butters that I'm going to make!

Then I went into a Super Target and bought some Yes To products. I know you can buy this brand here too but I hadn't seen any of the grapefruit products here yet and I haven't used this brand before so I thought I'd try them out!

Yes To Grapefruit CC Cream - I bought this in light/medium and I must admit it is pretty dark for the colour is says so it wouldn't be great if you're really pale but it's not bad for me - I have just been on their website and there is a shade 'light' so that may have been better! It smells good and gives a light to medium coverage but still makes my skin look much better than without any makeup on. This cost $15.99.

Yes To Grapefruit Exfoliating Wipes - I haven't tried these yet but you're meant to use them once or twice a week for a gentle exfoliation. These were $6.99 and apparently have 60% more than usual in!

I hope you like this photo! I took it by my bedroom window and you can see the view I had - it was beautiful!
Out of Africa Organic Shea Butter with Vitamin E & Lavender - I found this in K Mart near some other Shea products but this sounded the most appealing to me considering how cold it was on holiday! It doesn't smell as nice as I had thought it would but its a lovely thick balm and was great for extra dry patches.

Devine Lip Shimmers Rose & Merlot - I bought these in a local shop in Estes Park on our first day called Trendz. I was quite surprised but happy at how many of the local shops sold natural and organic products from small companies. I have tried the Rose shade and its a lovely pale pink shimmered lip balm.

Summit Soap Cocoa Honey Chapstick - This lip balm contains most of the same ingredients as my S.W. Basics so I thought I'd get it because I love that one. It's made locally in Colorado in Breckenridge and is 100% natural. I haven't used this yet as I still have some of my S.W Basics left but it only cost $3.95 so it was a great price.

The Naked Bee Moisturising Hand & Body Lotion - This is my the only product I have been disappointed with and will be giving this to my boyfriend. It smells horrible to me. I think it's the pomegranate, I should have tried a sample before buying it but it just smells really strongly and it's not to my taste. For some reason my boyfriend likes it so I'll pass it onto him but I'm not happy with this purchase. It cost $6.95 from a local shop in Estes Park.

I didn't take any shower gel with me because I didn't want to overload my suitcase so I nipped into Vitamin World in an outlet in Loveland and bought this Dr Organic Tea Tree Shower Gel. It smells gorgeous and was really refreshing to use. I signed up to be a member with them and got this for $7.99 instead of $9.99.
I also visited another Super Target in Atlanta when we went to see some family who live out there. Unfortunately, most of our suitcases were on the weight limit already so anything I was going to buy had to be less than 3oz/100ml so it could fit in my hand luggage or light enough to go in my suitcase and not make a difference. I really wanted to get a SheaMoisture Hair Treatment Masque but it was way too big so I'll probably get that when I go to New York in a month!

Sorry for the bad photo - I was in Target and had my phone on me and quickly took the pic to post on Twitter as I had wi-fi in there! They had a great range of natural products; Jason, Alba, SheaMoisture, Dr Bronners (look at the size of those 18-in-1 soap bottles bottom right!!), Yes To, Giovanni, Nourish, Avalon and loads more! I was in heaven but gutted that I couldn't buy anymore - even though as you can see I didn't really need to haha!

Yes To Tomatoes Face Mask Sachets - I picked these up and carried them all in my hand luggage and they were only $1.97 each. I haven't tried them yet but I'm looking forward to using them as they're meant to be good for spot prone skin like mine.

Yes To Cucumbers Travel Face Towelettes - I picked up two packs of these at $2.99 because I knew they'd be great to just keep with my in my handbag and for on the plane. They smell gorgeous and they were so refreshing to use before and during my 8 hour flight back home!

Eos Lip Balms - My mum was using a lip balm but it wasn't helping her lips at all so I recommended her to use one of these because I had seen reviews from green bloggers that they were good. She picked the mint one up and she loves using it. I've now got my whole family obsessed with them haha! I picked up the Summer Fruits and the Mint.

I hope you enjoyed reading about what I bought on holiday! I will be uploading a post with some photos from my holiday on too!

  3. I now have images of you doing supermarket sweep style shopping in Whole Foods lol. You bought some good products. I like the sound of the shaving cream, in winter my legs just bleed and feel really sore when I shave, not an issue for me in summer

  12. NICE haul, Amber! You certainly made your U.S. trip worthwhile! Amen to EOS...I don't know what I would do without that stuff, and whenever I whip it out of my purse, people are always asking me about it because of its unique shape/colors. I hope I can replicate a similar buying strategy if I ever make it back to England...you guys have the BEST brands. Have a great weekend!

    1. I'll be posting reviews soon hopefully! I love the cleanser its really soothing and I use it to take off my make-up and it does a great job. I just can't use it on my eye make-up thats the only problem. The shampoo & conditioner were great at first but I think my hair just needs to get used to the products now - it was starting to build up but I used Yarok hair serum on my roots and they're working great now! xx
