Jason Organic Sea Kelp Shampoo | Review

29 Aug 2013

I placed an order with Lucy Rose at the beginning of the month but unfortunately my parcel went missing! I waited and waited but it was a no show so they kindly sent me a new package! I had previously ordered Jason's Henna Hi-Lights Shampoo but my hairdresser warned me that it might mess with my newly highlighted hair so I asked if I could swap to the Sea Kelp shampoo when they re-sent my parcel which Sarah kindly did - how's that for customer service!

Jason are a new brand to myself but I had heard some good reviews on their shampoo so I thought I would try some. I have been using natural and organic skincare but I haven't quite made the transition to my hair so it was a great opportunity to try some natural shampoo. Jason Natural Cosmetics are a natural and organic brand who have a wide variety of products from dental care, haircare, deodorants, body care & a skincare range.

This shampoo is enriched with Sea Kelp, Ginseng Root & Kukui Nut Oil and does not contain parabens, SLS or Phthalates. It claims to tame and smooth frizzy hair whilst fighting environmental stressors with the help of Vitamins A and C as well as botanical extracts. Vitamin E helps to moisturise so your hair feels revitalized and nourished, and your hair bounces with healthy shine and effortless manageability.

I use this twice in the shower and do not use conditioner afterwards as I don't feel my hair needs it. I use my Giovanni Blow Dry Spray when my hair is wet and leave it in as a styling and moisturising product at the same time and it works perfectly with my hair.

It smells gorgeous and really does lather up well. It feels really smooth and luxurious as well whilst it is lathering up in my hair and my hair does also feel really clean and moisturised. My hair feels and looks clean for atleast two days which is great for me!

Ingredients list from the Jason Website & bottle:

Water (Aqua), Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Aleurites Moluccana Seed Oil, Algae Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract*, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract*, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract*, Equisetum Arvense Leaf Extract*, Laminaria Digitata Extract*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf/ Stem Extract*, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Plumeria Acutifolia Flower Extract, Citric Acid, Glycerin, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Panthenol, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Phytate, Sodium Sulfate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Alcohol*, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Coumarin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Fragrance (Parfum) *Certified Organic

After reading on the front of the bottle 'NO SLS' I was quite disheartened to read that it contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate however after doing my research I have found that this is not actually the same as Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate is derived from coconut and palm oils; a safe skin friendly surfactant (foaming agent) for both skin and hair. This mild plant derived surfactant creates a rich, luxurious lather that effectively removes suface oil, dirt and bacteria, without stripping or drying sensitive skin.

I am trying to avoid SLS at the minute as I have exzema on my hands so I was happy after doing my research!

I bought this on Lucy Rose for £6.99 for 472ml so you get a massive bottle of it! It's going to last me ages and I will definitely purchase another bottle when I'm done!

  2. Not using products containing SLS any more is a wise decision! I Additionally avoiding sulphates, alcohol and glycerine even prolonged my washing rhythm :)
